Another day at the mall... Browsing again!

Hey Everyone!

So I checked out the Zara in Square One that I was telling you about in the last post. Unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience. Since it was their opening weekend, the store was very busy, and it was virtually impossible to find someone to help me find stuff. Once I did, they weren't very helpful. I explained that I was a blogger interested in trying to find some of the items that they stock that go up to XXL. The employees were not able to identify these garments, and said that if I had the item number, they could look it up in the computer to see if they stock it. It would be great if they could just have a little section of the items that offer extended sizes so that it would be easier for the plus size customer to shop. The shop attendants didn't seem very interested in serving me, although I suppose, in their defence, since it was the opening weekend, it was rather busy. I realized that if I was going to find some or even just one of these elusive garments I was going to have to hunt it down myself. I broke out my handy iPhone and went on Zara's website and filtered down to XXL in the shop by size section. My search for dresses returned four results. Out of the four dresses I looked for, I found only one of the styles (shocking for such a large store), and their largest size was a large. Urgh! It was a frustrating experience to say the least, and if Zara doesn't want my business (or yours), then that's fine. I won't be back unless they make some significant changes. Zara has recently begun offering online shopping for US customers (hopefully they'll extend this courtesy to Canada soon), and perhaps the online shopping experience will be better. I'd love to hear from any of you who have purchased something from them online. I'm not sure I feel comfortable shopping with a retailer who only offers their plus sizes online, though. What, am I not good enough to shop in your store? Can't have the fatties ruining your image, right? What if a skinny shopper sees them?! The horror! If a store is able to produce these garments in these sizes, then they should also extend the same privileges to those who would buy them that they offer to their straight size customers - to actually see, touch, and try on their potential purchases. Sorry if this is rant-y. I was just really excited by the idea that a retailer was actually going to include us for once. Nope... Oh well... Here's the outfit I wore to the mall...

I sympathize with the whole size issue. I'm on the opposite end of the spectrum and I've found that Zara quickly sells out of XS! And when you ask them about shorter sizes (I'm 5'2"), it's even worse. I had a horrible experience at Over the Rainbow once where the salesperson had NO IDEA what I was talking about when I told her I was specifically looking for Joe's jeans in the Provocateur cut (petite cut - usually around 30-31" inseam)!

Don't even get me started on Zara. They are everywhere here and I think that it's very overpriced for the quality their offer. I used to go inside from time to time for their shoes, but was treated twice very badly at my local store and now I am basically boycotting them. lol I prefer to give my money to retailers who makes "real" plus size clothes.

I really think that being unhelpful, rude and stand-off'ish is part of the international Zara training! I have been to many Zara stores all over Europe (mostly when I could actually fit in their clothes) and it is the same "concept" everywhere.

I would rather spend my money elsewhere...

My darling, Zara never and ever have or will have (in near future) size XXL in their stock!! I'm from Galicia (part of Spain where Zara's central is) and once a time I had the opportunity to ask them about plus sizes... "they have no plans about that, plus sized girls are not contemplated for the moment"

Ocasionally you can find a false XL o XXL cardigan(they are really so small, that's why I call them false!) but never a good and fancy dress, skirt, or whatever...

I usually use Zara during Sales period for shoes and bags... That's all!! And in last years they are more expensive year by year :(

Ps, I mentioned you in my blog with a link, hope there is no problem!

:)

That's a common issue with Zara regardless of your size. I'm from Argentina (but I currently live in the US) and when I used to shop in Buenos Aires, the customer service sucked too. I think in order to work for Zara you need to be a twig that doesn't have any customer service skills and the only thing that you care is your commission, period. I have encountered that problem in all the Zaras I've been to in both countries. It's a pity because I LOVE the clothes, but I hate the store experience. I'm glad there is finally a website.

I'm totally with you on this front....I'm constantly bamboozled with the fact that retailers seem to be wanting to take a step backwards, and shove plus size people into shopping online...do they think we all want to be sat hidden away at home ordering our clothes like they're illegal drugs?

When I've found places that dare to do plus size ranges, you head into the stores, and nine times out of ten I'll end up disappointed....if its a store that has mainly un-plus size stuff in it, trying to get any help

I've never heard of Zara, but if that's what their customer service is like(and by reading other comments it seems it is) I would never give a store like that the privilege of having me as a customer....they don't deserve your time or money.

I have the same problem in getting plus sizes from F21, in Calgary they don't carry the plus sizes in stores. I had a girl in one store claim they carried a "few" pieces in plus sizes but nobody ever bought them so they don't anymore....well of course nobody is going to buy them because if you only have "a few" nobody is going to know they're there. So many don't know they even carry plus sizes at all, I only found out a few months back and even my sister who is a shopaholic didn't know until I told her. But at least with F21 the actual customer service I have received when shopping in the store for jewelry has been fantastic...and I haven't had any issues with shopping off their website(with the exception of crappy selection)....just wish they would clue in that if they do more to advertise they carry plus sizes and put a proper section in their stores that there would be a lot of happy women in this big city.

Well, as a side note, you do look lovely in your outfit. It looks like something I can also pull off these coming cooler months here in tropical Philippines
