Six Take: Film and Television - Mad Men!

Hey Guys,

It's time for my September six-take post! This month, my fellow bloggers and I decided to interpret the style from each of our favourite fashionable films and television shows. Come on, you knew I was going to pick Mad Men. I absolutely adore the style from Mad Men. The women are so beautiful, and each has their own unique and individual style. While January Jones' character Betty Draper is my favourite, donning indulgent, beautifully full dresses with fitted bodices atop amazingly pouffy petticoats, Christina Hendricks' character Joan Holloway also has amazing style and such voluptuous curves! Her fitted dresses and combination of pencil skirts and colourful blouses give her an enviable style - no wonder she ended up working at Hermes after leaving Stirling Cooper! Elizabeth Moss' character Peggy Olson also has a few outfits that are nice (but, unfortunately, just as many that are awful - I don't think the writers meant for her to be especially fashionable). Even many of the secondary characters, such as Pete's wife Trudy, are the epitome of late 50s and early 60s style, looking absolutely stunning and historically accurate to boot. Janie Bryant, the show's costume designer, is doing a remarkable job ensuring that the women look wonderful and that their style is representative of the era.

You guys might remember this picture from awhile back, but I felt like it was very Joan Holloway-esque, and thus, re-post worthy. Top - Thrifted/Skirt and Necklace - Forever 21+/Tights - Hue brand from The Bay/Shoes - Dorothy Perkins/Ring - given to my by my mom

Same with this one... It was taken at Lola and Gigi when I visited and showcased their store. This dress is an Anna Scholz

I absolutely adore 1950s and 1960s fashion! So what do you guys think? Do you watch the show? Did I capture Mad Men's style?

Make sure you visit the other lovely six take bloggers to see interpretations of their favourite television series and films!

A Plus Size Canadian Fashion Clothing Outfit (LOL!) for a Meeting with My PhD Advisor

Hey Ladies! (faites défiler le texte en français)

So I had a meeting with my PhD advisor because I have a really big exam coming up at the end of May and we were going over some practice questions and responses. The meeting went really, really well, and she loved my responses, so that put me in a pretty great mood for the rest of the day!

Did you guys like my polyvore outfits? I've been thinking I'll be doing a few more of these soon because I can't always afford to buy myself all of the great stuff I want! I saw a great new dress on the ASOS Curve site today and I actually had to get up and walk away from the computer to keep myself from buying it. I love it so much! It combines a 1970s print and colours with a 1950s full skirt shape, with fantastic Mad Men appeal (speaking of Mad Men - have you guys seen this incredible book from the costume designers? It's another thing that I really must have. I saw it at chapters and now I can't stop thinking about it!) Here's the link:

The inside is better than the somewhat drab cover, I promise!

So anyways, here's the outfit I chose to wear for the meeting. I actually got stopped 6 times with people giving me compliments! That really makes my day; a perfect stranger who has no motives with you at all just smiling at you and giving you a compliment. That's when I know I am doing something right!!! It's me in my ASOS cape again. I love this cape. It's so fantastic. It's so comfy that it feels like I am wearing a blanket, and yet, it is so fashionable that random people stop me to ask me where I got it. My only negative with this piece is that if you're wearing a shoulder or cross-body bag with it, you have to wear that underneath. But that's not really a big deal. Just love! <3

Sorry I don't have close up detail shots of the individual pieces today - I was in a hurry again! But I hope I made up for it by making the pictures really, really big! LOL. You've seen the shoes and bag before in other outfits anyways, so I hope it's okay. Stay tuned for another post soon!

PS - City Chic is having a 20% off sale today and tomorrow (April 8th and 9th), and Dorothy Perkins is offering 25% off everything from today until April 17th (enter code DPVIPD at checkout). Enjoy the sales, ladies!

______________________________________________________________________________________

Bonjour!

OOTD (Outfit of the Day) - Or What I'm Wearing...

Hey Everyone,

It's been a while since I've done a What I'm Wearing post, so I thought I'd do one today since I wore something I like yesterday while I was teaching my class on public speaking. Initially, when I was deciding what I wanted to wear, I was inspired by some scenes from the tv show Mad Men where Betty Draper (January Jones) is horseback riding. I really love the preppy-looking equestrain style she wears. I think the outfit ended up being something totally different, but that's okay. I still ending liking the finished product! Here are some (sorry for the low quality) pictures of January Jones horseback riding outfits from Mad Men:

And here's what I ended up wearing - my students actually complimented me on my bow and brooch, which totally made my day! At first, I had khakis on with the outfit, but I didn't really like the way it looked so I changed into jeans...

The blazer is from The Bay Above Average section (my boyfriend gave it to me as a Christmas present like three years ago). The Bay on Yonge and Queen has the largest selection of plus size stuff. The top with included bow was from J.C. Penney (I got it on a cross-border trip last year). The jeans were from Forever 21 + and cost around $21. The shoes were from Torrid and purchased a long while ago as well, I'm afraid. All of the jewellery is from F21, except the brooch, which I got at a Vintage jewellery sale in York, UK when I was there last summer. It only cost 3 pounds and according to the seller comes from the 1940s. I wish we had sales like that here! Anyways, even though the outfit didn't turn out exactly the way I wanted it to, I hope you all still like it! What do you think?
